Edmund Stieber (born January 3, 1948 in Oberhausen ) is a former German football player .
Career
Edmund Stieber began playing football in the youth of RSV Klosterhardt , before moving to the junior department of the Sterkrade 06/07 game association as a B-youth , which had already produced successful players such as Dieter Herzog , Dieter Bast and Norbert Brinkmann . At the age of 18, as a defensive midfielder, Stieber immediately made the leap into the Niederrhein Association League , the third highest German division at the time, where he and Sterkrade became Lower Rhine champions in the 1969/70 season . In the 1970/71 season Sterkrade 06/07 fought again for the championship title with Bayer 05 Uerdingen , which ultimately went to Uerdingen, and so Edmund Stieber moved in 1971 to the established regional league promoted from Krefeld. Under coach Klaus Quinkert , the defense specialist played three successful years in the Regionalliga West and qualified with the Bayer factory club in 1974 for the newly founded Bundesliga 2 .
In the first season 1974/75 Edmund Stieber reached with his club the runner-up in the 2nd division north and celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga after the successful promotion games against the south-second FK Pirmasens . In the following Bundesliga season Edmund Stieber made 29 games, but he could not prevent the Uerdinger's immediate relegation. In the 2nd Bundesliga North he then played two more seasons for Bayer 05. When Stieber subsequently lost his regular place and coach Klaus Quinkert was also replaced by Siegfried Melzig , he decided in November 1977 to move to second division rivals 1. FC Bocholt , for whom he played 21 games in the 1977/78 season . His former teammate Wolfgang Franke was already playing in Bocholt, but after relegation from the second division, the club failed in the 1978/79 season in the Oberliga Nordrhein.
He let his career end at Sterkrade 06/07 .
Edmund Stieber played a total of 29 games in the first division and 85 games (one goal) in the second division.
