Arundel is a market town and civil parish in the south of England in the county of West Sussex . It belongs to the Arun District . The city is well known beyond the region because of Arundel Castle , which is one of the best preserved castles of the Middle Ages . It is the ancestral seat of the powerful Earls of Arundel , who were also Dukes of Norfolk and who had a lasting impact on the townscape.
In the village, which has around 3500 inhabitants, there is a unique sacred building, the FitzAlan Chapel , which is divided in the middle by a wall. This goes back to the English Civil War and was part of a peace agreement between Protestants and Catholics .
Arundel is the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Arundel and Brighton . The Cathedral of Our Lady and St Philip Howard was built in the 19th century in the French Gothic style in 1400 and consecrated on 1 July 1873rd
The river Arun , which flows through the city to the west, was named after the village and was previously called Tarrant .
In Tristan Gottfried of Strasbourg , this duchy is the home of Duke Jovelin, his wife Karsie and their children Kaedin and Isolde Weißhand (v. 18690-18717).
