The Burgwall Stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Blumenthal district of Bremen . Several football clubs in the city use the venue for their home games. With the LG Bremen-Nord there is also an athletics club among the users.

Location and facilities

The stadium is located in a wooded area in the northern part of Bremen's Blumenthal district. To the west of the venue is the 270 federal motorway , while the Burgwall road runs south of the stadium. The district sports facility includes four sports fields and a sports hall . The sports facility offers 5,000 standing places. The playing area consists of natural grass . A track for athletics runs along the school side, while there is a jump pit for the long jump behind the western gate . There is no floodlight system.

history

The facility was built in the early 1950s and opened on September 9, 1951 with a friendly game between Blumenthaler SV and Werder Bremen . In addition to the Blumenthaler SV, the Burgwall Stadium is also used by the SV Türkspor Bremen-Nord , the DJK Germania Blumenthal and the LG Bremen-Nord . Blumenthaler SV played four years in the then third-class Oberliga Nord and one year in the fourth-class Oberliga Niedersachsen / Bremen . In addition, the club played several times in the DFB Cup on Burgwall and received professional clubs such as MSV Duisburg , 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Werder Bremen. Blumenthaler SV achieved the highest average attendance in the 1974/75 season , when an average of 2,427 spectators came to the home games.

A new changing building was built between December 2014 and May 2016. The costs were around 2.15 million euros.

Grandstand

The grandstand of the Burgwall Stadium was provided with 24 individual images by the artist Willi Vogel . They show landscapes, genre and flower motifs. The Blumenthal district administrator Peter Nowack wants to set up a "Stadion GmbH" to redesign the grandstand to be suitable for the regional league.
