Wilhelmsburg 09

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelmsburg 09 was a sports club from the Hamburg district of Wilhelmsburg . The first soccer team played for seven years in the then first-class Gauligen Lower Saxony , Nordmark and Hamburg .

history

The club was founded in 1909 as FC Pretoria Wilhelmsburg , based on a HAPAG steamer. Ten years later the name was changed to Wilhelmsburger FV 09 , and from then on it was simply called "Nullneun".

In 1922, the team , made up of predominantly Polish-born players, was promoted to the first-class district league in Northern Hanover , where they initially stood in the shadow of local rivals Victoria for years . In 1930 both clubs ended the season tied and had to determine the champion in the decider. After a 2: 2, 09 managed to win the title with a 3: 2 in the replay. In qualifying for the North German Championship, the Wilhelmsburg team met Holstein Kiel and were already leading 2-0 and 3-1. When the score was 4: 4, a heavy snowfall suddenly set in and Kiel won 8: 4.

With the introduction of the Gauligen as the top division in 1933, 09 was relegated to the second division. In 1936 they were promoted to the Lower Saxony Gauliga when the Wilhelmsburg team had the best goal quotient compared to VfB Oldenburg and VfB Schinkel . In the Gauliga, the 09ers secured their league with a 2-0 win over Hannover 96 . Due to the Greater Hamburg Law of 1937, Wilhelmsburg had to switch to the Gauliga Nordmark for the 1937/38 season . This turned out to be too strong for the 09ers, who lost 0:14 at Hamburger SV , among others . At the end of the season, the relegation was bottom of the table.

After the team failed in the promotion round to Phoenix Lübeck in 1940, they returned to the Gauliga. This time the 09ers were able to establish themselves and celebrated a 2-1 victory over Hamburger SV in the 1942/43 season. At the end of the Second World War , the Wilhelmsburg sports field was destroyed. A planned merger with local rival Viktoria did not materialize. In the 1945/46 season , the 09er took part in the Hamburg city league , from which the team was relegated with only one point. After the immediate resurgence, the team was runner-up in the Alster League in 1949, but rose again from the Hamburg upper house in 1951. The direct resurgence succeeded after a 5-0 win in the decider against SC Sperber . In 1956 it went down a class again before the direct re-promotion succeeded.

In 1959, the 09er had to compete in a playoff against the Harburger TB for a place in the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord . In front of 22,000 spectators, the two teams separated 1: 1 after extra time . Harburg won the replay 2-0. Two years later, the Wilhelmsburg runners-up, failed in the promotion round as bottom of the table by jumping into the top division. The 1962 storm surge that destroyed the 09er sports field hit the club hard. After several years of mediocrity, he was relegated from the state league in 1969. Although the direct ascent could be achieved again, but it went down again in 1972.

On May 8, 1972, Wilhelmsburg 09 merged with TSV Vorwärts Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg and the Wilhelmsburg boxing club to form Wilhelmsburger SV 93 . This merged in 2003 with TSC Viktoria Wilhelmsburg-Veddel and TV Jahn Wilhelmsburg to form SV Wilhelmsburg .
