Stefan Böger (born June 1, 1966 in Erfurt ) is a former German soccer player and soccer coach. He was Sports Director of Halleschen FC from April 13, 2016 to July 18, 2017 .
Stations as a player
Stefan Böger learned to play football at BSG Umformtechnik Erfurt and began his career at FC Carl Zeiss Jena , where he played in the GDR league from 1984 to 1991 . He came to 110 league games and scored five goals. In addition, he ran six times in the European Cup. In 1991 Böger moved to FC Hansa Rostock , who had qualified as the last GDR champions for the 1st Bundesliga. Böger played one season for the Hanseatic League, made 34 Bundesliga appearances and scored two goals. During the season at Hansa, Böger made two further international assignments. In the first round of the European Champions Cup , he played the full playing time in both games against Spanish champions FC Barcelona . He was eliminated from the competition with Hansa after a 3-0 away defeat and a 1-0 home win.
After the relegation of the Hanseatic League, Böger joined the second division team MSV Duisburg , with whom he managed to return to the Bundesliga. After three years at MSV, Stefan Böger moved to the 2nd Bundesliga at SC Fortuna Köln in 1995 and a year later to FC Gütersloh . In the second division season 1996/97 he played 28 times for East Westphalia , which finished 13th in the table at the end of the season. Actually, the defender wanted to end his career in Gütersloh , but the coach of Hamburger SV Felix Magath noticed him through his good performances . At the age of 31, Böger was signed by Hamburger SV in 1997 and played in the Bundesliga for another two years before ending his career with the second team at HSV.
During his time in Jena, Stefan Böger was part of the GDR junior national team , for which he played five international matches between 1985 and 1987. In 1986, he played seven games for the GDR's Olympic team . In 1990 he was called up in the last four international matches of the GDR national soccer team.
Stations as a trainer
In 2002, Stefan Böger became the coach of the second team at Hamburger SV before he switched to Hansa Rostock's second substitute for the 2003/04 season. From there, his path led in the summer of 2004 to the regional division VfB Lübeck , where Stefan Böger spent two successful coaching years and only narrowly failed to get promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga twice in a row. Despite the current contract, Böger was given leave of absence from his club after the unsuccessful promotion attempts in May 2006. On October 25, 2006 - just five months after his impeachment - league competitor and state rival Holstein Kiel signed Stefan Böger in order to achieve the same goal in the medium term, namely promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. Böger received a contract for this task in Kiel for the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons. He was released on February 26, 2007.
Stefan Böger has been a member of the DFB coaching staff since July 2008 . First he took over the U-16 national junior team as the responsible coach. In May 2010, the DFB extended his contract with him as coach of the German U-17 team . Since 2013 he has been responsible for the U-16 juniors again. His contract, which expired in summer 2014, was not extended by the DFB.
On May 23, 2014, he signed a two-year contract with third division Dynamo Dresden as head coach. Böger held this office until his dismissal on February 16, 2015.
Böger has been working for MDR as a football expert since July 2015 , before he succeeded Sven Köhler as head coach at third division Hallescher FC on September 8, 2015 .
In November 2017, Böger became the U19 coach of the Chinese first division team Guangzhou Evergrande .
