Markus Palionis (born May 12, 1987 in Kaunas as Mindaugas Palionis ) is a Lithuanian - German football player . The defensive player is under contract with the second division Jahn Regensburg .

childhood

Markus Palionis was born in Kaunas in 1987 under the name Mindaugas Palionis . His mother has German ancestry. At the age of eight he emigrated with his parents to Germany and grew up in Freilassing in Upper Bavaria . His first name was often mispronounced at school, which is why his parents decided to rename him Markus .

Career

In his youth, Palionis played in the youth team of FC Bayern Munich . From 2005 he was under contract with Wacker Burghausen , for whom he played in the professional team from 2006. From August 2008 he played for SG Dynamo Dresden . For the 2010/11 season he moved to SC Paderborn . In the first half of his first year he was still used as a substitute, in the second half he was often on the starting line-up. This year he was sent off twice (once yellow-red, once red). He missed the 2012/13 season because of protracted ankle injuries and operations . In the summer of 2013, SC Paderborn informed him that they were planning without him. From then on, Palionis played in the reserve team. His contract in Paderborn ended in June 2014. At the beginning of October 2014 he was signed by third division club SSV Jahn Regensburg , but the club fought against relegation in the 2014/15 season . In the middle of the relegation battle, the defender appointed captain extended his contract prematurely until 2018. The fall in the regional league could not be prevented. But Jahn rose straight away with Palionis as captain: After the championship in the 2015/16 season , the East Bavarians prevailed in the relegation against VfL Wolfsburg II. The following year, SSV Jahn managed to march through to the 2nd Bundesliga, but Palionis was seriously injured in the season, so that he could only be used sporadically in the season and in the decisive relegation games against 1860 Munich .

Palionis was a Lithuanian U-21 international and played two international matches for the Lithuanian senior team .
