Patrick Funk (born February 11, 1990 in Aalen ) is a German football player who can be used both in defensive midfield and as a right defender. He is the brother of Marius Funk .

Career

Patrick Funk began his career in the football shirt of FV 08 Unterkochen . He then moved to SV Ebnat from there to SSV Ulm 1846 . In 2002 he joined the youth team at VfB Stuttgart . In 2007 Funk was awarded the Fritz Walter Medal for U-17 players in gold. Funk played his first games for the second team at VfB Stuttgart in the second half of the 2007/08 season. In November 2009 he was named captain of the team.

Funk made his professional debut on July 26, 2008 on the first day of the 2008/09 season for VfB II in the 3rd professional league against Kickers Offenbach . For the 2010/11 season he was promoted to the professional squad. Funk made his competitive debut for the first team of VfB Stuttgart on July 29, 2010 in the third qualifying round of the Europa League against Molde FK . On August 29, 2010 he made his Bundesliga debut against Borussia Dortmund . On November 7, 2010, Funk was in the starting line-up for the first time in the Bundesliga in VfB's 6-0 home win against Werder Bremen .

In June 2011, Funk was awarded to FC St. Pauli in the 2nd Bundesliga for two seasons after he had previously extended his contract with VfB Stuttgart until the end of June 2014. After his return to VfB, Funk was only used in the second team in Stuttgart.

For the 2014/15 season, Funk moved to SV Wehen Wiesbaden .

After four years with Hessen, Patrick Funk will return to his hometown in summer 2018 to play for VfR Aalen . His contract there runs until June 2021.

In July 2019 he moved to TSV Essingen in the Association League Württemberg on a free transfer .

National team

Funk played for the German U-15, U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19, U-20 and U-21 national team, among others. In 2007 he finished third with Germany at the U-17 World Cup and fifth at the U-17 European Championship . At the 2009 Junior World Cup , Funk was a regular player for the German U-20s and was eliminated in extra time with his selection in the quarter-finals against Brazil. On February 29, 2012 in Halle (Saale) he scored his first ever international goal with the 1-0 winning goal over the selection of Greece . On May 28, 2013 Patrick Funk was appointed by trainer Rainer Adrion to the squad for the U-21 European Championship 2013 in Israel .
