The 2009/10 UEFA Women's Champions League was the ninth draw of the European championship championship for women's football clubs and the first under this new name. It replaced the previous UEFA Women's Cup . 53 teams from 44 countries competed for the title. The competition began with the first games of the qualifying round on July 30, 2009 and ended with the final on May 20, 2010 at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez in the Spanish city of Getafe . Last year's winner (winner of the UEFA Women's Cup ) was FCR 2001 Duisburg . The first winner of the newly designed competition was the German champion 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam , who defeated the French Club Olympique Lyon 7: 6 on penalties in the final.
In the qualification, 28 teams played for seven places in the round of 32. The champions of the 20 weaker associations and the runners-up of the eight strongest associations took part in the qualification. The five-year rating determined by UEFA is used to determine the strongest and weakest associations. According to their coefficients, the teams were classified into four betting groups. The draw was made on June 24th 2009 by UEFA President Michel Platini in Nyon and brought the following groups:

On January 15, 2010, the Olympique Lyon team was disqualified by UEFA for playing two unqualified players. The second leg, which Lyon won 5-0, was rated 3-0 for Fortuna Hjørring. This would have made the Danes into the quarter-finals. Olympique Lyon then appealed to the International Court of Sports , which was upheld on February 25, 2010. According to the FIFA rules , Lyon should not have signed or deployed the players concerned Christine Nielsen and Isabell Herlovsen . Lyon justified the complaint by stating that FIFA regulations only apply to professionals, but that the French league is an amateur league.

The draw took place on November 20, 2009 in Nyon. The first legs were played on March 10, the second legs on March 14 and 17, 2010.
The semi-finals were drawn together with the quarter-finals on November 20, 2009 in Nyon. The first leg took place on April 10 and 11, the second leg between Potsdam and Duisburg on April 18, 2010. The second leg between Umeå and Lyon was postponed to April 28th, 8:00 p.m. CET due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland and the associated disruptions in European air traffic.
