Ingvild Stensland (born August 3, 1981 in Lyngdal ) is a Norwegian soccer player who last played until 2016 for Stabæk FK and from 2003 to 2016 for the women's national team, of which she was the captain for a while.
Career
society
The 174 cm tall playmaker grew up in a family of footballers in the south of Norway: her father is a football coach , her two older sisters, Vibeke and Kristin, devoted themselves to sport at an early age. Ingvild Stensland also started playing football at the age of six. First she was active in her hometown for Lyngdal IL, later she played for Athene Moss, among others . In 2002 she joined the Kolbotn IL , where she was used in central defense and gradually more and more often in midfield. Her good performances in the national league and in European competitions led in 2005 to a contract offer from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam , which she did not accept. In early 2007, however, she moved to the Swedish club Göteborg FC . From January 1, 2009 she played for Olympique Lyon . In 2011 she won with Olympique Lyon , the UEFA Women's Champions League 2010/11 , but was only used in two games due to injuries. She then moved to Kopparbergs / Göteborg FC and for the 2012 season in her home country to Stabæk FK . In the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons, she made a total of 45 appearances and scored 20 goals. The season was the most successful, because Stabæk managed the double . On August 27, 2014, she tore a cruciate ligament during the away game against Arna-Bjørnar and did not play a league game in 2015. In March 2016, she made her comeback at the club and made 13 league games in the 2016 season. As a league third but the qualification for the UEFA Women's Champions League 2017/18 was missed.
National team
Stensland took part with the U-18 team at the U-18 European Women's Football Championship in 1999 , in which Norway finished fourth.
Ingvild Stensland made his debut in the Norwegian national team on January 23, 2003 at the four-nation tournament in China against the USA . She took part in the 2005 European Championship in England and was also part of the Norwegian squad at the 2007 World Cup in China. At this tournament she was appointed to the all-star team of the best players. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing she reached the quarter-finals with Norway and the semi- finals at the 2009 European Championships in Finland .
On September 15, 2010, she made her 100th international match in the second playoff game of World Cup qualification against Ukraine .
The trained teacher was voted Norwegian Footballer of the Year in 2005. In 2006 she was the only Norwegian to be nominated for the 2006 FIFA World Cup ™ election.
Stensland was appointed to the squad for the 2011 World Cup and came on as a substitute in the test match on June 16, 2011 against Germany after an eight-month international break in the second half. In the preliminary round from the Norwegian team, she led Norway as captain on the field in all three group matches. After the long injury break, she was only able to give the Norwegian team a few impulses.
In 2013 she took part in the finals of the European Women's Football Championship for the third time and was used in all six games. A 0-1 defeat in the final against Germany made her runner-up in Europe.
For the 2015 World Cup, she was appointed to the provisional squad , but ultimately not considered. Norway missed direct qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games through the round of 16 at the World Cup . After a 19-month international break, she was used again in two test matches in January 2016 and then also called up for the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in March 2016, but only made two substitutions in the second and third group matches. As the last of the four participants, the Norwegians finally missed the Olympic Games.
It was then used in three games in April and June during qualification for the 2017 European Women's Football Championship , in which the Norwegians qualified for the finals. After the early qualification, she was no longer taken into account in the remaining qualification and subsequent friendly matches.
So far, Stensland has completed 144 international matches and scored ten goals, one each in friendly matches against Germany and England. (As of June 7, 2016).
