Viola Odebrecht (born February 11, 1983 in Neubrandenburg ) is a former German soccer player . The midfielder was most recently under contract with Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg .

Athletic career

Club soccer

At first, Viola's parents thought of a career as a swimmer . When this was no longer financially viable, she began playing soccer at the Neubrandenburg police sports club in 1995 . In 1998 she successfully took part in preparatory training for Bundesliga club 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam , where she played until 2005. With Turbine, she won the championship and DFB Cup double in 2004 . In 2005 Odebrecht won the UEFA Women's Cup with Potsdam . She also won the DFB Indoor Cup twice and was the top scorer at the 2005 tournament.

She then worked for a year with a college team in the USA and two months with Valur Reykjavík during her studies. In 2006 she went to FCR 2001 Duisburg . From the 2007/08 season she played in the Bundesliga for SC 07 Bad Neuenahr , but returned to Potsdam for the 2008/09 season. With Turbine Odebrecht won four championships in a row and twice the DFB indoor cup. She also won the 2010 Champions League with Potsdam .

In the summer of 2012, Viola Odebrecht left Potsdam again and joined league rivals VfL Wolfsburg , with whom she also became German champions in the 2012/13 season .

In 2006 she was the subject of the documentary “Football Goddesses” along with three other women who were enthusiastic about football.

National team

Between her assignments with the U-19s, in which she increasingly took on the role of captain, she was often invited to courses for the senior national team. Eventually she made it to the women's national team without ever being used in the U-21.

In 2003 she made her A international debut against Norway . In the same year she became world champion with the team. She won the bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics . Odebrecht has completed a total of 40 international matches and scored one goal. Your last appearance in the DFB-Elf was for a long time on April 24, 2005 against Canada .

Only after the 2011 World Cup did she return to the German national team. In March 2012, she and the DFB team won the Algarve Cup with a 4-3 final victory in Faro against world champions Japan. She was awarded the silver bay leaf for her sporting success .
