Ella Masar McLeod (* 3. April 1986 as Ella Masar Copple in Urbana , Illinois ) is an US-American - Canadian football player .

Career

society

Masar started her career in the youth of the Little Illinois Soccer Club and played alongside it from 2000 to 2004 for the Urbana Tigers, the university team of Urbana High School . During her studies at the at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign played Mazar for the W-League - franchises Windy City Bluez and Chicago Gaels . After two more years in the W-League with the Vancouver Whitecaps Women and Washington Freedom , Masar moved to the Chicago Red Stars in the newly founded WPS for the 2009 season . There she ran 38 times in two seasons and scored eight goals. In 2011 , Masar played for the magicJack team before moving to France for one season at Paris Saint-Germain .

In the summer of 2012 she returned to the United States and ran for a few months again for Chicago, which after the dissolution of the WPS now joined the WPSL elite . At the beginning of 2013, Masar was hired as a so-called free agent of the newly founded NWSL franchise of the Red Stars. She made her league debut on April 14, 2013 against Seattle Reign FC , her first goal in the NWSL she scored on June 16 against FC Kansas City . On September 20, 2013, she left the USA and moved to Denmark on loan to B93 / HIK / Skjold in the 3F Ligaen . Upon her return, she joined the newly formed NWSL franchise of Houston Dash for the 2014 season . For the 2016 season, Masar moved to the Swedish first division club FC Rosengård . After 42 games and 26 goals in two seasons for FC Rosengård, Masar moved to Germany for VfL Wolfsburg . She ended her active career in July 2019.

National team

Masar played from 2007 to 2009 for the US youth national teams in the U-21 and U-23 age groups. On October 29, 2009, she made her first and so far only international match for the US national team . Opponents in the Augsburg Impulse Arena were the German national team .

Private

In July 2015, Masar married her teammate Erin McLeod and subsequently took on Canadian citizenship. The couple announced their split in early 2019.

Since June 2019 she has been training the Panthers Veltheim .

She is in a relationship with the former German national player Babett Peter who is under contract with the Spanish club CD Tacón . The couple announced at the end of February 2020 that they were expecting offspring.

Music career

Together with her then wife Erin McLeod , she founded the pop-rock band The McLeod's , where Masar plays keyboard and electric guitar and Erin sings. In 2017 she released her debut single Living Out That Dream with this band, via the streaming service Spotify and on CD, which is available via CD Baby.
