The 2009 Women's Professional Soccer season was the first season of the US women's soccer league Women's Professional Soccer . The regular season began on March 29, 2009 and ended on August 9, 2009. The play-off rounds were played from August 15 to 21, 2009. The first champions of the league was Sky Blue FC from Piscataway Township , New Jersey , who beat Los Angeles Sol 1-0 in the final . The top scorer was the Brazilian Marta from Los Angeles Sol with ten goals.
