Christie Patricia Pearce , married from 2001 to 2017, Christie Rampone , (born June 24, 1975 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ) is a former American soccer player . From 2008 to 2015 she was the captain of the national team , with which she became three times Olympic champion ( 2004 , 2008 and 2012 ) and twice world champion ( 1999 and 2015 ).

Pearce started out as a very successful striker , then played in midfield and finally in defense . From 2013 to 2017 she played for Sky Blue FC in the National Women's Soccer League and from 1997 to 2015 for the US national team. Pearce and Kristine Lilly are the only players to have played more than 300 international matches.

Career

Youth and Association

Pearce was a successful basketball and hockey player in high school before turning to football at Monmouth University , where she still played as a striker .

Between 2001 and 2003 she played for New York Power in the professional league WUSA , which was discontinued in 2003. In the Women's Professional Soccer , which started in 2009 , she played a total of 30 games as Team Captain of Sky Blue FC in 2009 and 2010 and won the title in 2009, where she partially acted as head coach. Since 2011 she has played for magicJack, which emerged from the Washington Freedom .

From the 2013 season she played in the newly founded National Women's Soccer League , the highest American professional league in women's football for Sky Blue FC .

National team

She played her first international game on February 28, 1997 at the age of 21 in a 4-0 win against Australia , the first international goal followed nine weeks later on May 2, 1997 for a 7-0 final against South Korea . On July 13, 2003 she made her 100th international match in a 1-0 win against Brazil as the 15th US player and on August 12, 2008 at the Olympic Games in a 4-0 win against New Zealand as the sixth US player made her 200th international match.

In February 1999, on the occasion of the group draw for the 1999 World Cup, she played with the national team against a FIFA World Cup. The game is not counted as an official international match.

With the US national team she took part in the 1999, 2003 and 2007 World Championships and the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games . She became world champion in 1999 and won gold medals in 2004 and 2008 and silver in 2000. At the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in 2002 she was due to a torn ACL not attend but belonged in 2006 to the winning team. After the birth of her second daughter, she was part of the US team again in 2010, which surprisingly only came third at the 2010 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup and thus missed direct qualification for the 2011 World Cup, as well as the necessary playoff games against Italy. In addition, she was able to win the four-nation tournament in the People's Republic of China and the Algarve Cup in Portugal several times with the national team . At 36, Pearce was the oldest player in the US squad for the 2011 World Cup . She was used in all three preliminary round matches and the quarter-finals and reached the semi-finals with her team. In the semifinals, she made her 240th international match, placing it fifth on the list of female soccer players with at least 100 international matches . On July 17th, at 36 years and 23 days, she was the oldest player in a World Cup final at the time. Although the US team largely dominated the game and developed more scoring chances, it was only enough to score 1-1 in regular time. Both teams also scored a goal in extra time, so that ultimately the penalty shoot-out had to decide. Here three of her teammates gave away, only Abby Wambach was successful. In contrast, three Japanese players were able to convert. So she stayed in her 241st international match, which she drew level with Joy Fawcett , only the runner-up. Only three players - Kristine Lilly (354), Mia Hamm (276) and Julie Foudy (274), all USA - had played more games than they did at the time and she had played with all of them in the national team. After the resignation of Birgit Prinz, she was the only active player with more than 200 international matches .

On February 11, 2012, she made her 250th international match in a 2-1 win against New Zealand as the fourth player.

Pearce was the captain of the US team at the 2012 Olympic football tournament and was used in all games. After the Brazilian Formiga (24 games), she has played the most games at the Olympic Games with 22 games. In the final against Japan on August 9, 2012, she was one of three players to win the gold medal for the third time, and so far she is the only player to have made four finals.

On December 1, 2012, she made her 273rd international match, making her the fourth-most international player. On December 12 and 15, 2012, she played her 275th and 276th international matches against China, which brought her to level with Mia Hamm (276 games) and only her former teammate Kristine Lilly (354 games) had played more games.

On October 24, 2014, she was the second player to make her 300th international match in the semifinals of the 2014 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup against Mexico .

For the Algarve Cup 2015 , which the USA won for the tenth time, she was nominated on March 8 after recovering from an injury, but was not used.

She was also nominated for the 2015 World Cup, but she was only substituted on for the first time in the third group game. With it, she set a new age record 8 days before her 40th birthday. After that, she only came on a short-term basis when she was substituted on in the final, 11 days after her 40th birthday, and then held up the World Cup trophy at the award ceremony together with Abby Wambach .

After the World Cup final, it was last used on September 20, 2015 in an 8-0 win against Haiti. After that, she could no longer be considered due to injuries. She was then nominated again for two games against Japan in June 2016, but was not used. On April 4, 2017, she was officially retired from the US national team at the SheBelieves Cup 2017 before the hosts' game against England.
