Julie Maurine Foudy (born January 23, 1971 in San Diego , California ) is a former American football player .

Career

Together with Mia Hamm , Joy Fawcett , Brandi Chastain and Kristine Lilly, Foudy is one of the five American players who participated in the great successes of the US national team from the 1991 World Cup to the 2004 Olympic Games (two Olympic victories and two world championship titles each) ). She was the national team captain from 2000 until the end of her career in 2004 . She made 274 internationals and is fourth in the ranking of all players . In the Fan Celebration Tour , a series of ten friendly matches, she ended her career with Mia Hamm , Brandi Chastain and Cindy Parlow as well as national coach and April Heinrichs on December 8, 2004 against Mexico.

Extra sports engagement

Foudy shows extraordinary social commitment. In 1998 she received the FIFA Fair Play Prize for her work against child labor . From 2000 to 2002 she headed the Women's Sports Foundation founded by Billie Jean King . In 2004 she supported John Kerry in his presidential campaign.
