particularities

  • Before the hostesses match against England, long-time captain and 311 national player Christie Rampone was officially retired from the US national team.
  • The German team's victory against England was their 100th victory on neutral ground and their 20th victory against England - no other team was won more often (before 19 victories each against England, Norway and Sweden), and England did not lose to any other team more often.
  • The German Anja Mittag first played her 150th international match against the USA and then scored her 50th international goal against England.
  • For the first time in a tournament with four participants, the USA only finished last.

Effects on the world rankings

  • The USA lost 1st place to Germany.
  • France stayed third, but was the only participant to gain points and shorten the point gap to the leading teams.
  • England climbed to fourth place despite losing points as the Canadians, who finished second in the Algarve Cup, also lost points.
