The Buck Shaw Stadium is a football stadium in Santa Clara , California . It's on the Santa Clara University campus . The stadium is home to the Santa Clara Broncos soccer teams and was previously used for the university's football and baseball teams. The football team was disbanded in 2005 and the baseball team now plays at Stephen Schott Stadium, which is also on campus.

history

On September 22, 1962, the Buck Shaw Stadium was opened. That day, the American football team from the University of California, Davis met that of the Santa Clara University. The stadium was named after Lawrence T. "Buck" Shaw, a former American football coach for the university team.

During the soccer World Cup in 1994 , the stadium was used as a training location for the Brazilian national soccer team .

From 2008 to 2014, the San José Earthquakes played their home games in Major League Soccer (MLS) at Buck Shaw. From 2015 the Earthquakes will compete in the newly built Earthquakes Stadium with 18,000 seats.
