National team

The defensive midfielder first took part in a World Cup for women in the United States in 2003 . She was the first player who was called up to a World Cup squad without having previously played international matches. She played her first game shortly before the World Cup, in the preparation game against Costa Rica . In this game she scored her first goal. In her two following games, including the first game at the 2003 World Cup against Sweden, she scored one goal each, setting a record for the US national team . The Americans finished the tournament in third place. Boxx was elected to the All-Star-Team of the World Cup and from then on belonged to the tribe of the US national team. The following year she first took part in the Algarve Cup and was voted the best player of the tournament there. In 2004 she played with a world team against the world championship team from Germany . Then she took part in the Olympic Games in Athens and won the gold medal there. In the 2004 election for world soccer player, she came in seventh place. In the following year she was again one of the nominated players and finished third. She was part of the USA squad for the 2007 World Cup and was used in five games. Since she received the yellow-red card in the semifinals, she could not be used in the small final. In two preliminary round games she was in the starting line-up, only in the game against Colombia she was not used. After losing to Sweden in their last group game , they met Brazil in the quarter-finals . There she and her team reached the penalty shoot-out with a last-minute goal in stoppage time by Abby Wambach , in which they converted the first penalty for the US team in the repetition. On her first attempt, which the Brazilian goalkeeper Andréia Suntaque was able to keep, she was too far in front of the goal, which is why she got a second chance. Since their teammates were also successful, but the Brazilian Libera Daiane forgave, the USA moved to the semi-finals against France . After beating France 3-1, she and her team reached the final against Japan. After it was 2-2 after extra time, the penalty shoot-out had to decide again. Here Boxx was the first to take part, her shot was held by the Japanese goalkeeper. As Carli Lloyd and Tobin Heath could not convert either, Japan won the penalty shootout 3-1 and the US team won silver.

Boxx was in the squad for the Olympic football tournament in London , but was replaced in the first game against France after 17 minutes when the score was 2-0 due to an injury. After that, their teammates were able to turn the game to 4: 2. It was only used again in the final against Japan and won her third gold medal.

In the 2013 season she played in the newly founded National Women's Soccer League , the highest American professional league in women's football for the Chicago Red Stars .

After a long break from injury, she was used again at the 2015 Algarve Cup , which the USA won for the 10th time. She was also named to the US squad for the 2015 World Cup .
