history
When the Women's Professional Soccer was announced on September 4, 2007, it was also announced that a participating franchise would be based in Los Angeles. On October 26, 2008, the name Los Angeles Sol was officially announced. US national player Shannon Boxx was introduced on September 16, 2008 as the first player in the franchise.
In the first game of the 2009 season , the team won 2-0 against Washington Freedom on March 29 . The first goal in club and league history was scored by defender Allison Falk in the sixth minute of the game.
After a series of eleven unbeaten games, the Sol were able to secure the title of the regular season on the third last day of the game. Los Angeles was the only team to defeat every other team in the league at least once with a win against the Boston Breakers on the final day of the game. The Sol finished the season with 41 points from 20 games.
As the regular season winner, Los Angeles Sol was seeded for the WPS Championship final on August 22nd. There they met Sky Blue FC , who however prevailed 1-0 and won the title.
In November, the Anschutz Entertainment Group returned its club shares to WPS , which then managed the franchise for the following three months. However, after no agreement about a purchase of the franchise could be reached with a potential new owner, the league announced on January 27, 2010 the dissolution of Los Angeles Sol. The 19 players still under contract were distributed to the other franchises in a so-called dispersal draft on February 4th.
