Erin Katrina McLeod (born February 26, 1983 in St. Albert ) is a Canadian-Scottish soccer goalkeeper . She has been playing for the Canadian national football team since 2002 and has been Canada's sole record goalkeeper since December 13, 2015.
Career
society
McLeod played for the SMU Mustangs and Penn State Nittany Lions in her teens . At the same time, she began professionally with the Vancouver Whitecaps Women, with whom she became champions in the W-League in 2004 and 2006 . This was followed by an engagement with Washington Freedom .
Shortly after the end of the 2011 World Championship tournament, McLeod moved to Europe and joined Dalsjöfors GoIF in Damallsvenskan on July 20, 2011 . The club, which was promoted to the first Swedish league for the first time in 2011, was relegated to the second division again after only one year. In the 2013 season she played in the newly founded National Women's Soccer League , the highest American professional league in women's football, for the Chicago Red Stars and moved to league rivals Houston Dash the following season .
After the end of the 2015 season, she moved to Sweden for FC Rosengård on February 24, 2016 . She made her Super Cup debut on March 16, 2016, in a 2-1 win for FC Rosengård. After a knee injury, which she sustained in a friendly on March 23, 2016, McLeod missed the entire 2016 Damallsvenskan season. She made her comeback on May 7th 2017 with a 5-0 win for Rosengård over Kopparbergs / Göteborg FC . Twelve more missions followed. Her contract ran until 2017.
McLeod joined the Bundesliga club FF USV Jena on January 25, 2018 . After McLeod came to 9 missions for FF USV Jena in the second half of the season, she switched to SC Sand on June 8, 2018 after relegation from Jena . After McLeod was not used at Sand in the first half of the year, she terminated her contract and signed on November 19, 2018 for Växjö DFF , in Damallsvenskan .
International
McLeod reached the final with the U-19 national team at the U-19 Women's World Cup in Canada in 2002 , in which they only lost to the USA with a golden goal .
McLeod made her first A international match at the age of 19 on March 3, 2002 in a 4-0 Algarve Cup against Wales . With the Canadian national soccer team , she finished fourth at the 2003 World Cup , but was not used as a substitute goalkeeper. At the 2006 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup she reached the final with Canada, but lost again to the USA. At the 2007 World Cup she was the goalkeeper, but had to be replaced in the 79th minute injured in the third round match in a 2-2 draw against Australia . She was also the goalkeeper at the Olympic Games in 2008 and again the tournament ended with an injury for her: In the quarter-finals, she had to be replaced with an injury in the 19th minute. Canada then lost 2-1 to the USA. Another injury prevented their participation in the Canadians' greatest success, winning the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2010 , with which Canada qualified for the 2011 World Cup. Due to the many injuries, she only made 62 full internationals by then. In the last games in 2011, she alternated with record goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc on the goalkeeper position of the national team. So it was initially open who would keep the goal at the World Cup in Germany . In the first game against Germany McLeod was used. She was able to prevent several goals from the German team, but with two goals that led to the 1: 2 defeat, she was powerless.
She was also nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games . It was used in five out of six games. She was often used in alternation with the second goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc , who has now ended her career.
On November 24, 2014, she made her 100th international match against Sweden and on this occasion led the team as captain on the field. This makes Canada the first country to have two active goalkeepers with at least 100 internationals, as Karina LeBlanc, who resigned after the 2015 World Cup, made her 100th international match on March 24, 2012.
For the 2015 World Cup in his home country , McLeod was again nominated as number 1 and was used in all games, but was eliminated with her team in the quarter-finals. But in the last game she set Karina LeBlanc's record with her 110th international match.
On December 13, 2015, she made her 111th international match and has since been Canada's sole record goalkeeper.
She was part of the roster for the 2016 Summer Olympics qualifier , where Canada qualified for the Olympics. It was used three times. Due to injury, she could not be nominated for the Summer Olympics. It was only taken into account again for the 2018 Algarve Cup in February 2018 .
For the 2019 World Cup, she could not be considered due to an injury.
