Ralf Kellermann (born September 24, 1968 in Duisburg ) is a former German soccer player and coach . He has been working as the sporting director at VfL Wolfsburg since 2017. As a goalkeeper , he made eleven professional appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga .
Career
Soccer player
Kellermann from Duisburg gained his first gaming experience at MSV Duisburg . There he was during the time in the Oberliga Nordrhein from 1986 and after returning to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1989 as a substitute behind regular goalkeeper Heribert Macherey . He made his first professional appearance on the last matchday of the 1989/90 season on May 17, 1990 in the match at Eintracht Braunschweig (1: 4) over 90 minutes. In the following season he also completed a full deployment (2-2 at SV Darmstadt 98 ). After being promoted to the 1st Bundesliga , Kellermann was also part of the MSV squad in the 1991/92 season , but was only number three in the Duisburger Tor after the commitment of Wolfgang Kellner as the new regular goalkeeper.
After relegation, Kellermann left the club and moved to FSV Frankfurt, which was third-class at the time . Kellermann has been a coach since the end of his playing career. He initially looked after the men's team at SV Brunsrode-Flechtorf, which he led into the district league. He then moved to VfL Wolfsburg , where he headed the scouting department, before taking over the women's team as coach in summer 2008 as the successor to Bernd Huneke . In November 2010, Kellermann had to undergo an operation on the intervertebral disc ; during his downtime he was represented by his assistants Britta Carlson and Frank Pichatzek. In the summer of 2013, Kellermann won the “ triple ” as a coach with VfL Wolfsburg, winning the Champions League , the German championship and the DFB Cup . In the following year, his team won the Champions League title and the German championship again. Because of these successes, Kellermann was named FIFA Coach of the Year 2014. On April 3, 2017, he announced his resignation as coach of VfL Wolfsburg at the end of the 2016/17 season in order to become the club's sports director at the start of the new season. His successor as trainer will be his previous assistant trainer Stephan Lerch .
