Britta Carlson (born March 3, 1978 in Kiel ) is a former German soccer player and current coach . The defender and midfielder has been assistant coach at VfL Wolfsburg since 2008 . From 2004 to 2007 she played for the women's national team .

Athletic career

Britta Carlson began playing soccer in 1986 at TSV Altenholz . She then played at SV Friedrichsort and Schmalfelder SV . There she gained her first experience in the Bundesliga . Then it went to Hamburger SV . In 2004 she moved to 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam , with whom she was once champion, twice cup winner and 2005 UEFA Cup winner. She made her national team debut on March 4, 2004 against the People's Republic of China .

Since the German team won the bronze medal at this 2004 Olympics , they too received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Horst Köhler on March 16, 2005 .

A year later she became European champion. After differences with the Potsdam trainer Bernd Schröder , she moved to VfL Wolfsburg in January 2007 . She has been the club's assistant trainer since July 2008. She is the holder of the B and A trainer license. At the end of April 2011 she made a short comeback as an active player for Wolfsburg as part of the Bundesliga Cup .

In April 2018 she was appointed the new co-trainer of the German women's national team with effect from June 2018 .

Private

Britta Carlson trained as a bank clerk after graduating from high school and has since worked in various companies alongside daily training. She is currently doing a distance learning course in the field of sports economics. Since July 2, 2006 she is married to Nils Göttsche.

Others

Together with the former German national players Sandra Minnert and Renate Lingor and the marksman Manuela Schmermund , Britta Carlson was the World Cup ambassador for the 2011 Women's World Cup .
