Manuela Schmermund (born December 30, 1971 in Mengshausen ) is a German sports shooter . Schmermund is active in the upper league and looks after the offspring of her home club Schützengilde Mengshausen in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in Hesse .

Sporting successes

Schmermund started shooting at the age of 11. In a traffic accident on January 23rd, 1992, she was paraplegic . In September 1998 Schmermund came into contact with the German national handicapped team in the field of sport shooting and in 1999 she qualified for the Paralympics 2000 in Sydney .

She has participated in five Paralympic Games : the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens , the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing , the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London and the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro .

  • In 2000 in Sydney she reached the finals twice, with 8th place in the small caliber - three position fight and 10th place in the air rifle - standing.
  • In 2004 in Athens she won the gold medal in the air rifle and the bronze medal in the small-bore three-position battle.
  • In 2008 in Beijing she won the silver medal with the air rifle and achieved 6th place in the small-bore three-position battle.
  • In 2012 in London she again won a silver medal with the air rifle and this time 5th place in the small bore three-position battle.
  • In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, she again achieved 5th place in the small-bore three-position battle.

In 2001 and 2005 she was European champion with the air rifle (40 shots standing), and in 2003 and 2005 she was European champion in small-bore three-position combat.

In 2006, she was elected Sports Marksman of the Year 2005 in Germany, the first physically disabled athlete to win this award.

From 2003 to 2012 she won a total of eight German championships with the air rifle or the small-bore sport rifle.

In 2010 she became world champion in the air rifle falling target discipline in Zagreb . In 2011 she won the IPC World Cup in Fort Benning (USA) both in the women's singles and in the team competition in the small-bore three-position competition.
