Mengshausen is a district of the market town of Niederaula in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in East Hesse . It is located southeast of the main town in the Waldhessen region .

Mengshausen is located on the Mengshäuser Kuppe with its observation tower, which rises to 473 m above sea level. The Burgstall Wallenfels ground monument is located here .

In 1003 the place was mentioned for the first time as part of the wilderness area Eherinevirst . At that time the village was called Mengingozeshuson . The center of the place is the Mengshauser church. The building, which is essentially Gothic , has been a house of prayer for the Protestant community since the Reformation . The current hall church with a rectangular choir and a choir tower is a new building from the 17th century that underwent various alterations and renovations in the 18th and 20th centuries. The church was first mentioned in a document in 1520. Building inscriptions on the bearing beam of the roof and on the former west door bear the dates 1623 and 1624. In the 1980s, a technical annex was built on the west side of the church.

On December 31, 1970, in the course of the regional reform in Hesse, the voluntary incorporation into Niederaula took place.

According to the Hessian Monument Protection Act, the church and the churchyard are ground monuments.

Regionalverkehr Kurhessen GmbH ensures bus traffic . There is a village community center in the village .

The German marksman Manuela Schmermund trains in the Schützengilde Mengshausen, who as a wheelchair user won a medal at the last Paralympics in shooting with an air rifle from ten meters: 2004 gold in Athens, 2008 silver in Beijing and 2012 also silver in London.
