Heussner Tower
Already in 1922 there was a wooden viewing platform on the Mengshausen knoll. The first Heussner tower made of wood stood from 1932 to 1943. Today's 25 m high tower was built in 1964 from precast concrete parts with a triangular cross-section and renovated in 1990. The namesake Harry Heussner, local judge at the court in Niederaula , was president of the Knüllgebirgsverein for 40 years . The freely accessible Heussner Tower offers an unobstructed all-round view of the Knüllgebirge in the northwest, the Rhön in the southeast and the Vogelsberg in the southwest. If the visibility is good, you can also see the Hohe Meißner in the northeast and the Große Inselsberg in the east.
