Haune plateaus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Haune-plateaus are east of Fulda and west of the Rhon situated natural area (355.3) on either side of the lower reaches of the Haune in Fulda Haune-plateau (main unit 355) in eastern Hesse , Germany . They are located immediately to the east of the Kämmerzell-Hersfelder Fuldatales (355.2), which accompanies the course of the Fulda between the northern districts of Fuldas and Bad Hersfeld , and consist of the Rombach plateaus with the 473.4  m high Mengshäuser Kuppe in the west, along with the Haunetal the Hünfeld basin near Hünfeld in the middle and the Buchenau plateau with the 523.9  m high Stoppelsberg in the east.

Since the elevations of the Haune plateaus are located east of the Fulda and there is no noticeable border to the Rhön in the relief, they are often assigned to the latter low mountain range. However, they are geological, u. a. by the red sandstone , clearly differentiated from the Kuppenrhön (main unit 353) adjoining it to the east , which is also noticeable by the noticeably stronger forest cover on the plateaus.

Natural structure

The Haune plateaus are structured as follows (areas in brackets):

  • 355.3 Haune plateaus
    • 355.30 Rombach plateau (= Wehrda plateau ; 154.15 km²)
    • 355.31 Haunetal

      • 355,312 Lower Haunetal (44.41 km²)
    • 355.32 Buchenau plateau (72.71 km²)

Adjacent natural areas

To the west, behind the Kämmerzell-Hersfelder Fuldatales (355.2) from south to north, Schlitzer Land (355.1), Ottrauer Bergland (355.0) and Kirchheimer Bergland (355.4) follow, all also Fulda-Haune-Tafelland. In the north, behind the Solz valley, follows the Seulingswald (357.20), which belongs to the Fulda-Werra-Bergland (main unit 357), in the east in Soisberger Kuppenrhön (353.22), Milseburger Kuppenrhön (353.21) and western Rhön foreland (353.1) parts of the Kuppenrhön (Main unit 353), in the south the Fulda basin (352.1) as the central part of the Fulda sink (main unit 352).

mountains

The mountains of the Haune plateaus include - sorted by height in meters (m) above sea level (MSL; unless otherwise specified according to ):

  • Stoppelsberg ( 523.9  m , castle ruins; Buchenau plateau )
  • Mengshaeuser Kuppe ( 473.4  m , observation tower; more northerly Rombach plateaus )

Localities

The Haune plateaus are located in the districts of Fulda and Hersfeld-Rotenburg , Huenfeld Basin and Upper Haunetal exclusively in the first-mentioned district.

Upstream of the Haune, from north to south, there are:

Flowing waters

The 66.5 km long Haune as a central flowing water flows through the natural area from south to north. In addition to the 9.1 km long Rimbach , which gives it its name, the 10.0 km long Schwarzbach rises further north on the Rimbach plateau . The 21.4 km long Solz forms the northern border on this side of the Seulingswald . All mentioned waters flow from the right and thus east into the Fulda .
