Bookswomen
Books Women e. V. was founded in 1990 by feminists based on the model of the English association Women in Publishing (WiP) and has its headquarters in Munich and the office in Berlin. The interest group is a member of the umbrella organizations German Literature Conference and German Women's Council .
The association sees itself as a professional network of women from all areas related to books and related media, i. H. from the book trade , from publishers and agencies and neighboring work areas. You can become a member as an employee , self-employed , young professional or manager . There are 18 city or regional groups in Germany and Austria. The Who's Who yearbook of 2010 names 18 groups, including the Viennese group: Here, mostly monthly meetings, an exchange of experiences takes place, and regular professional events are also held. A general assembly is held annually nationwide. The association has around 900 members (as of February 2016).
The purpose of the network is to support one another through professional information exchange, further training and qualification and personal contact.
The most important resource is the annual membership directory. This is where the members introduce themselves with their training, previous focus areas and interests.
On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the association published the scientific study “MehrWert. Working in the Book Industry Today “in order. This is how the first interdisciplinary study of the book industry came about, focusing on the differences in the work situation for women and men. The study was presented at the 2010 Frankfurt Book Fair .
Mentoring program
Mentoring programs have been taking place in Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Cologne and Frankfurt since 1999 . More experienced female mentors from the book industry accompany and advise female junior staff (mentees) on professional issues for a year and provide support with further career steps. In June 2009 the 1st Book Women Mentoring Congress was held in Stuttgart under the patronage of the PhD publisher Rosemarie von dem Knesebeck .
Annual theme
Since 2008, the association has set an annual topic that they deal with intensively both internally and publicly, both regionally and nationwide.
