Susanne Himmelträger

Susanne Mayer-Himmelträger (* 1946 as Susanne Himmelträger ) is a German art historian and former bookseller.

Susanne Himmelheber's parents are the ethnologists Ulrike (1920–2015) and Hans Himmelträger (1908–2003). Her half-brother is the ethnologist Eberhard Fischer (* 1941). Her younger brother Martin Himmelträger (* 1953) is a journalist. Her daughter Clara (* 1970) is also an ethnologist.

Susanne Mayer-Himmelträger received her doctorate in art history in 1984 with a dissertation on the subject of episcopal art policy after the Tridentinum . As an art historian, she worked in museums in Karlsruhe and Heidelberg and published, mostly accompanying exhibitions, on Carlo Borromeo , Karin Bruns , Wilhelm Fraenger , Frans Masereel and Alfred Mombert as well as on the Biedermeier period in Heidelberg.

From 1991 she was the owner of a former women's bookstore in Heidelberg, which she renamed the Himmelhub bookstore . In 2010 she was named Book Woman of the Year by the Books Women network . In 2012, she sold the bookstore, which closed three years later.

Susanne Himmelträger is a founding member of the Heidelberg History Association and has held positions with the Soroptimists , the German Women's Ring and the Association of German Artists and Art Friends .
