Clara Mayer-Himmelträger

Clara Mayer-Himmelträger (* 1970 as Clara Himmelträger ) is a German ethnologist and curator .

Life

She is the granddaughter of the ethnologist couple Ulrike and Hans Himmelträger . Her mother is the art historian and former bookseller Susanne Himmelheber . The ethnologist Eberhard Fischer is her uncle.

In 2001 she completed her doctorate in ethnology at the University of Cologne with the dissertation Die Regalia des Kabaka von Buganda : A biography of things .

Clara Mayer-Himmelträger and her uncle Eberhard Fischer organized the exhibitions “ Zaire 1938/39” and “Die Kultur der Baule ” in Zurich in 1993 and 1997 with photographs and ethnological collections by Hans Himmelträger. They also wrote the exhibition catalogs together.

Since 2011 she has been the head of the Africa department and curator at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne . For example, she curated the exhibition “ Namibia - Germany: A Divided History” in Cologne in 2004 and in 2004/2005 at the German Historical Museum in Berlin. In 2016/2017 she also directed the exhibition “ Pilgrims . Longing for happiness? ”.
