German women's ring
The Deutsche Frauenring eV (DFR) is an association of women's associations that wants to represent the interests of women in all areas of public life. Since it was founded in 1949, it has been committed to realizing equality for women and equal participation of women and men in German society. It is independent, non-partisan and non-denominational and, as one of the largest women's associations, active nationwide.
history
The German Women's Ring was founded on the occasion of a conference from October 7th to 10th 1949 in Bad Pyrmont . Before this actual establishment, however, there were apparently individual local rings. On October 8, 1949, the first chairman Theanolte Bähnisch was elected by a meeting of delegates . The Deutsche Frauenring eV was made up of non-partisan and non-denominational women's associations in the three western occupation zones and Berlin (West) . The women's ring thus tied in with the Federation of German Women's Associations from the Imperial and Weimar periods. The Deutsche Frauenring has been a member of the International Women's Council since 1951 . Together with various other women's organizations, it forms part of the umbrella organization of the German Women's Council .
Organization and activities
The German Women's Ring is active in local rings in around 60 cities in Germany, as well as at the level of the regional associations and in the federal association. The association contributed to the creation of the CEDAW alternative report ( Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women ). The DFR is committed to issues such as the reconciliation of family and work , equality, violence against women , role stereotypes , gender-sensitive health policy , and against genital mutilation of women and girls.
