German Literature Conference

The German Literature Conference eV is the common voice of the associations and institutions significantly involved in literary life in Germany. It was founded in 1991 as a non-profit association to represent the interests of literature to the public as well as to authorities and legislators. According to the statutes, these concerns include, in addition to the "preservation of freedom of literature" and the like. a. copyright and literary and translation funding.

Since 1997 the association has been the only member of the literature section of the German Cultural Council .

The association organizes regular symposia on relevant topics of literary life. Until 2009, it also awarded the (undoped) Karl Preusker Medal on October 24th, “Library Day”, to a person or institution that had made a special contribution to public librarianship .
