In addition to being of legal age, regular membership requires at least two fantastic fictional publications that are originally published in German, and since 2017 also self-publications . Anyone can submit an application for junior membership. In addition, there are 27 sustaining members. B. Publishers belong. A committee, consisting of the board and other full members, decides on admission. The association is based in Viersen .

With Syndikat , Mörderische Schwestern and DeLiA, the network is one of the authors' associations in Germany dedicated to a certain genre.

history

Thirteen authors who write German-language fantasy, including Diana Menschig , Lena Falkenhagen , Bernhard Hennen , Kai Meyer , Ju Honisch , Carsten Steenbergen and Judith C. Vogt , founded the Phantastik-Autor-Netzwerk (PAN) eV association on November 15th 2015 in Cologne. Two other founding members were a bookseller and a lecturer . One of the triggers, according to Menschig, was a conflict between the Bonnier publishing group and Amazon , in which the book sales of the publishing group were manipulated and boycotted by Amazon. The Syndicate crime authors' association positioned itself with an open letter. Fantastic authors were barely visible in the dispute, but equally affected. Therefore, the fantastic genre should be given an institution that gives fantastic literature and its authors a voice as an association of authors, both on the market and in the literary scene.

From the beginning, the PAN branch meetings of Fantastik were planned as a platform for exchange both within the network and beyond. In 2017, VDI / VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH was won as a sponsor for the industry meeting in Berlin and was represented with a lecture and workshops. In the same year, through a discussion with Olaf Zimmermann , Managing Director of the German Cultural Council , PAN wanted to get more involved in cultural and political events. The application and admission to the German Literature Conference, the Literature section of the German Cultural Council, took place in April 2018. PAN is the first and so far only association within the association that is dedicated to a certain genre (as of July 24, 2019).

PAN branch meeting of the fantastic

Since 2016, the association has organized the PAN branch meeting of Fantastik once a year . There are also lectures, interviews, panel discussions and workshops with contributions from the literary world and fantasy, but also from non-subject areas such as economics, medicine or archeology. Previous topics were:

  • The German-language fantasy: cultural property - or is it just good? (2016)
  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fantasticism - Crossing Content and Media Boundaries (2017)
  • Do androids dream of freedom? About society and politics in fantasy (2018)
  • One world is not enough - world building and social plans in fantasy (2019)

For the industry meetings in 2017 and 2018, special prints were published in cooperation with the publishing house Martin Ellermeier in the fantasy and adventure game magazine Mephisto , which were included in the issue numbers 64 and 68. The sixteen-page extra booklets Fantastic Lebenselexier (2017) and Do Androids Dream of Freedom? (2018) thematically address the content of the respective industry meeting.

The association's annual general meeting takes place as part of the industry meeting.

  • The Fantastik authors network has been one of the main sponsors of the Fantastik Literature Prize Seraph since 2020 . As a result, every category of the award has been endowed since 2020.
