Life

Juliane "Ju" Honisch grew up in Munich, where she also completed her studies in English and history. From her youth she sang in choirs until she came to Irish folk music from 1970 through a longer professional stay in Ireland . After that she played both solo and in various bands. She has mastered the guitar and various types of Irish flutes.

Her first novels and poems were written during her school days. She wrote over 100 songs, some of which are featured on compilations from Germany, England, Canada and America.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Ju Honisch discovered filk music and has since worked successfully as a singer and songwriter in this field. She has already been nominated several times for the American Pegasus Award and won it in 2010 and 2018 in the “Best Song” category and in 2017 in the “Best Writer / Composer” category.

In 2000 she began working on her novel Das Obsidianherz , which was first written in English and only later translated into German by the author herself. In 2009 she received the “German Fantasy Prize” in the category “Best German-language novel debut” for her first work. The other volumes in this series loosely follow the first novel.

She lives with her husband in Hessen.
