Regine Elsässer

Regine Elsässer (* 1946 in Erlangen ) is a German translator and founder of the foundation . She is the granddaughter of Martin Elsaesser .

Life

Regine Elsässer was born in Erlangen in 1946 and studied German, drama and Scandinavian studies in Cologne , Hamburg and Turku / Finland . She then worked as a member of the Duden editorial team in Mannheim . She has been working as a translator from Swedish , Danish and Norwegian since 1983 .

As the granddaughter of the architect Martin Elsaesser, she received public attention because she campaigned for the listed wholesale market hall in Frankfurt am Main to be preserved. The family of Regine Elsässer appeared as plaintiff in 2007 against the reconstruction of the hall built by Martin Elsaesser planned by the European Central Bank (ECB). The dispute was settled in 2008.

Together with her brother Thomas Elsaesser , she founded the Martin Elsaesser Foundation in March 2009 , which is dedicated to the life and work of the architect Martin Elsaesser, and has prepared an exhibition about him. Regine Elsaesser is deputy chairwoman of the foundation.

In 1978 she was one of the co-founders of the Mannheim women's bookstore “Xanthippe”, in which she works. Regine Elsässer lives in Mannheim.

Elsässer is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.

Awards

In 2014, Regine Elsässer Books was named Woman of the Year .
