Enel Melberg
Enel Melberg (born September 21, 1943 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian writer and translator . She writes in Swedish and Norwegian .
Life
Enel Melberg was born in Tallinn , Estonia in 1943 . In 1944 she emigrated with her parents to Sweden , where she studied philosophy, history of religion, theater studies as well as Nordic language and literature. Until 1990 she worked as a teacher and translator . She has published numerous novels, children's books and plays. Enel Melberg now lives with her family in Oslo .
In 2001 she applied for membership in the Norwegian Writers' Association, but was refused because the association restricted membership to Norwegian and Sami authors. The association's statutes have been changed since then.

The central theme of Melberg's works is the social situation of women. In her book The eleventh day (Swedish: The eleventh dagen ) describe seven deceased writers their lives as a woman in society. The play Herr Brecht und seine Frauen (based on their novel Herr Brecht og hans kvinner ) takes place in exile in Finland in 1940 , where Bertolt Brecht and his family and colleagues Ruth Berlau and the sick Margarete Steffin on the estate of the communist-minded writer Hella Wuolijoki is accommodated. The four stubborn women clash again and again, while Brecht, who is currently writing his play “ Herr Puntila und seine Knecht Matti ”, knows how to use the erotic interests of women for his art.
Enel Melberg's works have been translated into German and she also works as a translator.
