history

The community is located in the area where native Indians from the Tapes tribe used to settle. The first European colonizers were Spaniards. The area later passed to Portugal through a treaty negotiated between the colonial powers Portugal and Spain ( Treaty of Tordesillas ). Although originally inhabited by Spaniards, residents of German and Polish descent make up the majority today . The place name is reminiscent of the Brazilian Minister for Public Works José Cândido Godói, who was in office when it was founded.

In 1995 the agricultural machinery construction company Indústria de Máquinas e Implementos Agrícolas KF Ltda, or Industrial KF for short, settled in the village.

"World Capital of Twins"

In Cândido Godói, twins are born more often than the average. The town therefore also describes itself as the “world capital of twins” or “land of twins” (original: Capital Mundial dos Gêmeos or Terra dos Gêmeos ). An exhibition is dedicated to the twin phenomenon in the local museum, the Museu de Resgate Histórico de Cândido Godói , a twins festival has been held every year since 2003, the 10th of its kind in 2016.
