Ebba D. Drolshagen (born October 11, 1948 in Büdingen / Hessen ) is a German translator and publicist .

Life

Ebba Dagmar Drolshagen was born in Büdingen as the daughter of a German doctor and a Norwegian. After the death of her father, she lived with her mother in Ålesund on the Norwegian west coast until 1953 , after which her mother returned with her to Büdingen. She studied English and German with a focus on linguistics in Frankfurt am Main and Chicago . Since 1985 she has been translating non-fiction and literature from English, Norwegian and Danish into German. Since 1987 she has also worked as a book author herself. She also works as a publicist and radio journalist and gives lectures. For several years she worked as a freelance travel journalist.

Drolshagen lives in Frankfurt am Main and in Oslo .

Drolshagen devotes herself to various topics in her books: After writing about the history of the Frankfurt main cemetery in 1985 ( Der Melancholische Garten , photos also by Ebba D. Drolshagen), a few years later she began to focus on lectures, articles and finally the book Des To employ body new clothes with the ideal of beauty of our time. She took up the topic years later in her book I want to look like myself. Only more beautiful again.

The second major area of ​​interest is the Second World War , especially the coexistence of German Wehrmacht soldiers and civilians from the occupied countries of Northern and Western Europe. Drolshagen wrote about the local lovers of the soldiers ( Don't get away with it scot-free ), the children from such relationships ( Wehrmacht children ) and about private contacts between soldiers and civilians in general ( The friendly enemy ). These books are each the first German-language books to be published on the respective topics.

The book Zwei rechts, zwei links (2017) is a cultural history of hand knitting.

Drolshagen is a member of the Association of German Language Translators (VdÜ) .
