Edvard Hoem (born March 10, 1949 in Fræna , Møre og Romsdal ) is a Norwegian writer.

Hoem's father was a lay preacher, and the Bible and hymn book were part of the everyday life of his six children. As a young man, Edvard Hoem rebelled against his personal background and described himself as "godless" for many years. In the 1970s he was also involved in the communist AKP . Nevertheless, he says that certain scriptures have shaped him since he began as a writer.

At 18, Hoem moved to Oslo and published his first collection of poems Som grønne musikantar in 1969 . At the age of 25 he made his literary breakthrough in Norway with the novel Kjærleikens ferjereiser ( Eng . Ferry trips of love , 1987). Since then he has written a number of novels, dramas, poems and psalms. He also works as a translator. From 1997 to 1999 Hoem was director at the Teateret vårt theater in Molde .
