Sharon Salzberg

Sharon Salzberg (* 1952 in New York City ) is an American Buddhist author and meditation teacher .

Life

Sharon Salzberg first came into contact with Buddhism in 1969 while taking a philosophy course at the State University of New York, Buffalo . From 1970 to 1974 she lived in India, where she first took an intensive meditation course in Bodhgaya in 1971 . Upon her return to the United States , Sharon Salzberg began teaching Vipassana meditation. Together with Joseph Goldstein and Jack Kornfield , she founded the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre , Massachusetts in 1976 . In 1989, Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg also founded the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies (BCBS). In 2005 Sharon Salzberg participated in the 13th conference of the Mind and Life Institute under the motto Investigating the Mind , in the Sacred Circles Conference in the Washington National Cathedral and in the Peacemakers Conference .
