Johann Karl Friedrich Jost (* 1789 in a village near Brieg ; † August 25, 1870 in Munich ) was a German theater actor and singer .

Life

After attending grammar school in Brieg, Jost learned to work as a businessman in Breslau, studied medicine for ten months at the University of Breslau and made his first attempts on the stage at the local theater as an extra. Grüneberg, Gleiwitz and a number of small towns in Upper Silesia were the next stages in his theatrical career, which only took him to larger cities after several years, such as Stettin, Danzig, Konigsberg, Riga, Bremen and Cologne. When he was repeatedly in Konigsberg, Jost was close to the theater management there for a while. In 1826 he was engaged at the Stadttheater in Hamburg, where he developed his significant talents as a character actor to a remarkable height, which made him worthwhile in other theaters, namely the Munich court stage. Jost therefore broke his contract and was enlisted on April 1, 1837 at the latter institute, to which he belonged until his death. For the last time he appeared on May 11, 1870 as a valet in "Cabal and Love".

The actor was married twice, the one time to a Fräulein v. Bergen, the second time with the singer Theophila Neumann .
