The Datsuns are a New Zealand rock band ( hard rock , punk rock ). They were founded in Cambridge , New Zealand in 1995 and are still active today. Based on the Ramones , the musicians use the group name as their surname.

Band history

The Datsuns were founded in 1995 under the name Trinket , which means “worthless stuff”, when Dolf de Borst ( electric bass / vocals), Phil Buscke ( electric guitar ) and Matt Osment ( drums ) settled in their hometown Cambridge met. When Christian Livingstone (electric guitar) joined the band in 1997, they renamed themselves "The Datsuns" so that journalists could better remember the name. The group later appeared in England as an opening act . They founded their own music label "Hell Squad Records" and celebrated their first successes with concerts and after a few appearances in the John Peel program on the English radio station BBC Radio 1 .

"The Datsuns" want to combine the rock of the 60s with the punk of the 70s, whereby the hard rock influence through bands such as B. Led Zeppelin is bigger. This can easily be seen in the guitar solos of lead guitarist Christian Livingstone, whose idol is Jimmy Page .

In 2002 the first album The Datsuns , produced by V2 Records , came out. Some critics accused the group of using the riffs of other bands like Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin in their songs. Others were enthusiastic about the carefree young group,

The second album Outta Sight / Outta Mind , which the former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones produced and who also played the keyboard on some songs, was released in 2004. The "circular saw" and the vocals, the guitar solos and more have been dispensed with the drums became more important. The songs became more melodic overall.

In 2004 the Datsuns played the main program on the Big Day Out in Australia and later appeared as the opening act for Metallica .

On October 10, 2008 the album Headstunts was released in Germany .
