Apostolic Prefecture of the South Sea Islands
The Apostolic Prefecture of the South Sea Islands was a Roman Catholic Apostolic Prefecture based on the island of Réunion .
history
The Apostolic Prefecture of the South Sea Islands was established on January 10, 1830 by Pope Pius VIII from cession of the Apostolic Prefecture of Bourbon . On June 8, 1833, the Apostolic Prefecture of the South Sea Islands gave up parts of their territory to establish the Apostolic Prefectures of East Oceania and Sandwich Islands .
On May 13, 1836, the Apostolic Prefecture of the South Sea Islands by Pope Gregory XVI. dissolved with the papal bull Pastorale officium . The Apostolic Prefecture of Western Oceania was established from the territory of the Apostolic Prefecture of the South Sea Islands .
The only apostolic prefect was Henry de Solages .
