The Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu ( Latin Dioecesis Honoluluensia , English Diocese of Honolulu ) is a in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Honolulu , Hawaii .
history
The diocese of Honolulu was on November 27, 1825 by Pope Leo XII. erected as the Apostolic Prefecture of Sandwich Islands . On August 13, 1844, the Apostolic Prefecture of Sandwich Islands was founded by Pope Gregory XVI. with the Apostolic Constitution Pastorale officium raised to the Apostolic Vicariate . The Vicariate Apostolic of Sandwich Islands was renamed the Vicariate Apostolic Hawaiian Islands in 1848 . On January 25, 1941, the Vicariate Apostolic Hawaiian Islands by Pope Pius XII. raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Honolulu . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of San Francisco as a suffragan .
