The Roman Catholic Diocese of El Paso ( lat. : Dioecesis Elpasensis ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in El Paso , Texas .

history

St. Patrick's Cathedral in El Paso

The diocese of El Paso was established on March 3, 1914 by Pope Pius X from cessions of territory from the dioceses of Dallas , San Antonio and Tucson . On October 16, 1961, the Diocese of El Paso gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of San Angelo . Another assignment of territory took place on August 17, 1982 to establish the diocese of Las Cruces .

The diocese of El Paso is subordinate to the Archdiocese of San Antonio as a suffragan .
