The Diocese of Saint Thomas ( Latin Dioecesis Sancti Thomae in Insulis Virgineis , English Diocese of Saint Thomas ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Charlotte Amalie in the US Virgin Islands , a non- incorporated suburb of the United States , in the Caribbean .

history

Pope John XXIII founded on April 30, 1960 with the bull Cum apostolicus the territorial prelature of the Virgin Islands from territory of the Archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico and subordinated them to the Archdiocese of Washington as a suffragan on October 12, 1965 . The territorial prelature was on April 20, 1977 with the bull Animarum utilitatis of Paul VI. raised to the diocese of Saint Thomas. The patrons of the diocese are Peter and Paul .
