The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento ( Latin Dioecesis Sacramentensis , English Diocese of Sacramento ) is one in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Sacramento , California .

history

The diocese of Sacramento was on May 28, 1886 by Pope Leo XIII. built from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and the Diocese of Grass Valley and subordinated to the Archdiocese of San Francisco as a suffragan . On March 27, 1931, the Diocese of Sacramento gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Reno-Las Vegas . Another assignment was made on January 13, 1962 to establish the Stockton Diocese . On September 15, 1966, the Diocese of Sacramento gave the area Alpine County to the Diocese of Stockton.
