The Diocese of Memphis ( Latin Dioecesis Memphitana in Tennesia , English Diocese of Memphis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese located in Tennessee in the United States , with its seat in Memphis .

history

Pope Paul VI founded it on June 20, 1970 from territory of the Diocese of Nashville and made it subject to the Archdiocese of Louisville as a suffragan diocese .

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Memphis includes the counties Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Shelby, Tipton and Weakley of the State of Tennessee .
