The Roman Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston ( Latin Dioecesis Vhelingensis-Carolopolitanus ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Wheeling , West Virginia .

history

The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston was on July 19, 1850 by Pope Pius IX. built from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Richmond as the Diocese of Wheeling and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Baltimore as a suffragan . On August 21, 1974, the Wheeling Diocese was renamed the Wheeling-Charleston Diocese .
