history
Pope Pius IX founded it on February 15, 1872 from cession of territory by the diocese of Albany . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of New York as a suffragan diocese.

The diocese of Ogdensburg includes the counties of Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis and Saint Lawrence and parts of Hamilton and Herkimer in the state of New York.
