The Roman Catholic Diocese of Gallup ( lat. : Dioecesis Gallupiensis ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese based in Gallup , New Mexico .

history

The Diocese of Gallup was founded on December 16, 1939 by Pope Pius XII. established from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and the Diocese of Tucson and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe as a suffragan .

The Diocese of Gallup comprises the areas of Catron County , Cibola County , McKinley County, and San Juan Counties in the state of New Mexico , and the areas of Apache County and Navajo County in the state of Arizona .
