The Roman Catholic Diocese of Peoria ( Latin Dioecesis Peoriensis , English Diocese of Peoria ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Peoria , Illinois .

history

The diocese Peoria was on February 12, 1875 by Pope Pius IX. Erected from assignments of territory by the Diocese of Chicago . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Chicago as a suffragan . On December 11, 1948, the Diocese of Peoria gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois .
